How to get up on a Wakeboard
Wakeboarding is a popular water sport. Do not be in a hurry to get up. Timing is very crucial. Patience is the key with the
timing being right as one learns wakeboarding.
One has to begin with scratch. When one begins, it is
important that they make sure their feet are tightly secured to the wakeboard. Remember not to pull at the handle. One needs to hold onto it to stay connected to the
boat.
As a beginner, once the
above is done, you need to lie back into the water and wait for the boat to get into motion. This is
the first and most important step when one starts to learn. The wakeboard is now parallel to the rear of the speed boat. While you are lying in the water, your toes are pointed up which means the wakeboard is not flat on the
surface of the water but resting on its edge, as you wait for the action to begin.
When the boat is in motion, let it pull you over the waters. As the boat pulls you, your body with will be pulled out from the water and onto the
wakeboard. The boat's
gentle pull will bring your body from the water onto the wakeboard so that you are now no longer in the water but
squatting on the wakeboard with your toes resting firmly on the wakeboard. At this point it is important that you understand the tempo
of the boat and the water and balance your body with its movement. This means you will be in a squatting position on the wakeboard. Do not resist the pull of the
handle or be over eager in your response to the tug of the rope. Once you have gained confidence, you can straighten yourself in a manner in which you turn
your hip in a manner which will bring one foot ahead of the other and tilt the wakeboard in a position which is
parallel to the rear of the boat.
Becoming
over confident will not help you so just stay calm. You are now in a standing position. In this stance you have one foot in front of the other.
Most of your body weight is on the back foot while the wakeboard's front portion is at an angle on the
waters. As the boat gathers speed, stay calm and do not
shift from your position as this will cause you to lose balance and fall into the water.
