How to wakeboard

Wakeboarding being a popular sport, where one is required to balance themselves on the board and ride the waters as the speed boats pulls you. Although it sounds simple, a lot of skill and practice goes into learning how to balance and ride the waves when pulled by a speed boat.

Getting the right wakeboard for yourself is the first most important step to begin the sport with. This is because a lot with depend upon your weight and height, and your level of skill. Once you have acquired the right one, you can begin with the sport. First of all, when you get onto the board; fasten your feet onto it and hold onto the rope handles which are connected to the rear of the boat and lie back in the water. At this time, your feet are pointed in the upwards direction while your body is in water.

Once in motion, the boat will tug at the rope handles you are holding and help you rise slowly on the wakeboard. You will be in a squatting position on the board now and skiing on the water. Once you are comfortable and in tune with the boat's movement, slowly begin to rise. When rising, turn your body sideways so that the wake board changes from its initial horizontal position to a straight position. Remember while rising, you have to maintain your balance on the moving wakeboard. Control your balance by letting the boat's movement to pull you up. The rope's handle in your hands will tug at you and your body should have a natural response to its tug by rising ever so gently completely in tune with its pull. This must happen not too fast or slow. Enjoy the water.

Timing and practice are important like in any other sport. Just like riding a bicycle, a few falls are inevitable before you can master this sport. Once you have learnt the basics there are a number of further tricks and stunts that you can perform while wakeboarding.

Tips for the beginners:

Get the right wakeboard gear. Do not start speeding right away. You will be able to increase your speed gradually. Initially keep a shorter distance between the boat and you. This will help you master the sport correctly.
